ICT hearing on Bergman’s explanation Mar 27
BSS, Dhaka :
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 yesterday set March 27 for holding a hearing on an explanation given by journalist David Bergman for his ‘criticism’ of the trial process.
David Bergman, a special correspondent of the English daily New Age, submitted his explanation yesterday through his counsel Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan.
Earlier on February 20, the second tribunal in its
order asked Bergman to explain his ‘criticism’ of the trial process by appearing before it or through his counsel. The ICT-2 issued the order after hearing a petition of High Court lawyer Abul Kalam Azad.
Azad filed the petition on February 18, seeking the tribunal’s rule upon David as to why contempt proceeding would not be initiated against him for his comments related to war crimes trials and judgments on his own blog.
Yesterday Bergman was present at the courtroom along with his parents and wife Barrister Sara Hossain. As the tribunal started its proceedings at 11.10 am, Bergman’s counsel drew courts’ attention saying his client has prepared an explanation and submitted it before the tribunal.
The tribunal then set March 27 for holding a hearing into the matter.
