ICC U19 CWC: India confirm super-8 outplaying New Zealand by 120 runs

India confirmed their quarterfinal berth in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup from Group-D after the 2nd successive victory outplaying New Zealand by 120 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday. To maintain their winning spree in the 11th edition of the World Youth ODI tournament mighty India scored 258/8 in 50 overs and restricted their opponent New Zealand at 138 for all in 31.3 overs. Mahipal Lomror and Avesh Khan, was adjudged man of the match, brought catastrophe in the New Zealand batting castle claiming five and four wickets for 47 and 32 runs. Zeeshan Ansari took another wicket for 19 runs in five-over. Topscorer Christian Leopard was bowled out by Mahipal Lomror at 80/7 in 21.2 overs managing run-a-ball 40 including three boundaries and two sixes. Finn Allen was bowled out by MK Lomror scoring run-a-ball 29 including six boundaries while number-10 batsman Talor Scott managed another run-a-ball 29 involving one boundary and two sixes before being caught and bowled by MK Lomror. Aniket Parikh was another scorer touched the double figure with 26 off 26 balls including three boundaries. Sent in to bat first in their Group-D match, India posted scored moderate target of 259 runs stimulated by the 3rd pair for 89 in 20.4 overs between Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan. The 3rd pair carried the team total to a decent 108/3 in 26.3 overs form 19/2 in 5.5 overs before RR Pant was caught by Zak Gibson off a Dale Phillips bowling. Sarfaraz hammered 74 off 80 balls featuring nine boundaries and was bowled out by Nathan Smith at 156/4 in 33.5 overs. Rishabh Pant scored 57 off 83 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Armaan Jaffer and Mahipal Lomror stayed in the 6th wicket for another partnership score of 55 runs in 8.4 overs before Jaffer was bowled out by Rachin Ravindra. Armaan Jaffer was out at team’s 220/6 in 45 overs scoring 46 runs off 49 balls with two fours. Mahipal Lomror continued to hit 45 off 42 balls involving three boundaries and one six before being caught and bowled by Zak Gibson at 253/8 in 49.3 overs. Rahul Batham (11off 10b) was another double figure scorer for India. ZN Gibson grabbed three wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs. NG Smith and R Ravindra took two wickets each for 39 and 41 runs in 10 and 6 overs. DN Phillips took another wicket for 57 runs in 10 overs. New Zealand jolted Indian batting castle early claiming two top order batsmen — skipper Ishan Kishan and Ricky Bhui — for 19 runs in 5.5 overs. India made a promising campaign in the 11th edition of the world youth cricket tournament beating an all-debutant Ireland side by 79-run in their first match on January 28 in Mirpur while New Zealand conceded a humiliating 32-run defeat against an all-debutant Nepalese side on the same day in Fatullah. — Dhaka, Jan 30 (UNB)
