A court in Chittagong convicted Abdul Hannan(40) death penalty for killing his wife on demand of dowry money.
Court at the same time fined cash penalty of Tk.1 lakh. The court acquitted mother of the convict Rabeya Khatun(62) who was accused in the case . Judge of Women & Child Repression Tribunal-1, Chittagong declared this verdict yesterday. Court sources said convict Abdul Hannan gets married with Nargis Akhter of Jafrabad union of Chandanaish upazila in 2000 .
Abdul Hannan was demanding dowry money of Tk.50 thousand from his wife. Source said the convict tortured his wife and later hecked to death on April 19, 2001 at about 10 pm.
A police case was lodged against him and police arrested him instantly. Public Prosecutor of the state Advocate Chandan Das said after getting bail on August 17, 2013, the convict Abdul Hannan remained absconding and the verdict was announced in his absence.
