Born in Narinda, Dhaka on 29 May 1952 to ATM Nurul Islam and Begum Farida Islam, Humayun Faridi entered the University of Dhaka to study organic chemistry in 1970. However, due to the Great Liberation War of 1971, it became impossible to continue his studies and he subsequently took part as a freedom fighter in the war.
Later, he was admitted to Jahangirnagar University to study economics and became a close associate of dramatist Selim Al-Deen.
Faridi kicked off the journey in the showbiz arena being a leading organizer of the 1976 Drama Festival of Jahangirnagar University. He became a member of Dhaka Theatre reaming a university student. Faridi made his acting debut in the television drama with “ËœNil Nakshar Shandaney’ in 1982.
He first appeared in the protagonist role of Selim Al Din’s “ËœShakuntala’ play. Then he appeared in lots of blockbuster dramas and became a familiar face in the showbiz industry. He came to the timeline around the showbiz arena for his character “ËœKan Kata Romzan’ in the drama “ËœSongsaptak’.
In the 1990s, Humayun Faridi began the journey in the film industry and dominated the industry until his death. In 2004, he won the National Film Award for his terrific acting performance in the media industry.
His notable films are – “ËœSontrash’, “ËœDahan’, “ËœLoraku’, “ËœDinmajur’, “ËœBir Purush’, “ËœBishwa Premik’, “ËœAjker Hitler’, “ËœMayer Odhikar’, “ËœBidrohi Charidike’, “ËœMone Pore Tomake’, “ËœBachelor’, “ËœJoyjatra’, “ËœShyamol Chaya’ etc.
Humayun Faridi was married twice in his personal life. In the 1980s, Faridi married Nazmun Ara Begum Minu. They had one daughter ““ Shararat Islam Devyani. The couple got divorced after four years. He has then married the actress Suborna Mustafa until 2008.
Humayun Faridi died on 13 February 2012, suffering from chronic lung disease in his residence.
Earlier, he won the Bangladesh National Film Award for best actor for his lead role in the film Matritto (2004) while he was awarded Ekushey Padak posthumously in 2018.
The government announced his name as one of the eminent citizens for awarding prestigious Ekushey Padak for 2018 for his contribution to the film industry.
