A human chain was held in Alirgaon Union No. 5 of Gowainghat Upazila demanding the cancellation of the death sentence of former Sylhet District Chhatra Dal member Annu Malik Liton and his unconditional release.
The hour-long human chain was held in front of the Alirgaon Union Complex building on Friday (May 2) afternoon.
People from all walks of life of the union participated in the human chain.
The speakers in the human chain said that Liton has been sentenced to death in a politically motivated and fabricated case as a victim of the Awami League’s revenge. He has been framed in a false heroin case, which is completely conspiratorial. They demanded the cancellation of the verdict against Liton and his unconditional release and drew the attention of the interim government and the judiciary.
According to the statement, Annu Malik Liton (Lomba Liton), son of Abdus Shahid Mia of Lakherpar village of East Jaflong union of Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet, was arrested by Gowainghat police station on September 26, 2019 with one kilogram of heroin. The court sentenced him to death in that case on October 5, 2023.
The human chain was presided over by Alirgaon Union BNP President Ebadur Rahman and conducted by Gowainghat Upazila Volunteer Dal Joint Convener Belal Uddin. Haji Fakhrul Islam, former President of East Alirgaon Union BNP, delivered the welcome speech at the human chain.
Also speaking, among others, were Gowainghat Upazila Chhatra Dal founding convener Ziaul Alam (Alal), Swechchhasebak Dal joint convener Tariqul Islam, Union BNP general secretary Taslim Uddin, former Chhatra Dal president Monowar Ahmed Saju, former general secretary Rubel Ahmed (Rana), Swechchhasebak Dal convener Shahed Ahmed (Raja), member secretary Ekhlasur Rahman, Union Chhatra Dal president Moynul Islam, Union Krishak Dal convener Manjur Ahmed and others attend the human chain.
