A human chain was formed in Osmaninagar, Sylhet, to protest the reckless movement and frequent accidents of the ‘Habiganj-Sylhet Express’ bus service plying the Habiganj-Sylhet route. The human chain was organized by the local people at Goalabazar area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway at 2 pm on Sunday (November 2). The speakers in the human chain alleged that the ‘Habiganj Express’ buses from Habiganj to Sylhet have been causing accidents for a long time through reckless and unprofessional driving. Many lives have been lost and injuries have been lost in these accidents, which has created intense anger among the public. They also said that due to this bus service, the local transport sector is being severely affected and safety risks on the highway are increasing.
Conscious groups claim that road safety is facing a serious threat due to the drivers’ unawareness, competitive speed and tendency to disobey the law. Local speakers said that all non-stop buses including the ‘Habiganj Express’ should be stopped on the Osmaninagar route immediately. At the same time, they called for regular monitoring, strict law enforcement and strengthening traffic management. The speakers urged the administration to take immediate effective measures to stop the irregular and reckless movement of these buses. At the same time, they warned that if the demands are not implemented, a stricter agitation program will be announced. Local public representatives, business leaders, leaders and activists of various political organizations, teachers and students of educational institutions and people from different classes and professions participated in the human chain.
