Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
Ishwardi Industries and Commerce Association has surrounded the electricity office, staged a protest and formed a human chain to protest the installation of prepaid meters for customers of Northern Electricity Supply PLC (NESCO) in Ishwardi. The protest program was held in the city on Thursday.
At a human chain and street rally organized by the Industrial and Merchants Association in front of the main gate of the market, speakers strongly demanded that NESCO not install prepaid electricity meters in Ishwardi Upazila. It has been announced that a strong movement will be launched in the future if the process of installing prepaid meters is not stopped.
The speakers at the roadshow said, “We will not accept the installation of prepaid meters in any way. Because no one is benefiting from it, rather the common people are being exploited and harassed. Money is being snatched from customers through additional charges, commissions and interest. Already, there have been reports of customers being inconvenienced and financially harassed in some areas of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in the northern region for using prepaid meters. Electricity is a government service sector. It is very sad that the government deducts money from customers before using electricity in the service sector.”
The road meeting was presided over by Ashiqur Rahman Nannu, President of the Industrial and Merchants Association. Ataur Rahman Pata, former Joint General Secretary of Ishwardi Municipality BNP, Anwar Hossain Joni, Vice President of the Merchants Association, Executive Member Md. Sajib Pramanik, Organizing Secretary of Ishwardi Press Club Selim Ahmed, etc.
