A human chain and rally have been held against Joypurhat Municipal Administrator Sabur Ali to protest the increase in holding tax without improving the quality of services.
This hour-long program was organized by the Conscious Citizen Society and a social organization called Green and Clean at 11 am today, Sunday, at the city’s Panchur intersection, Zero Point.
Prominent citizens Matiur Rahman, Abdul Wahab, Abu Musa, ATM Shahnaz Kabir Shuvro, Delwar Hossain, Shafiqul Islam, women leader Zahida Kamal and others spoke at the ceremony.
The speaker said, “After the departure of the previous fascist government, the municipal administrator, taking charge of the municipal administration, has given notice to impose several times higher holding tax without increasing the quality of citizen services including the development of roads and streets. We strongly protest this outrageous decision of the municipal authority to increase the tax burden of the people in an undemocratic manner.”
