A human chain and protest rally were held in protest against the insulting of Badal Hossain, the organizational and office secretary of the Pirganj Press Club of Thakurgaon and a journalist of the daily Kalbela, while performing his professional duties, the public display of weapons in the city, and the incident of Paytara disturbing the peaceful Pirganj. The program was organized by the Pirganj Press Club on Thursday morning at the eastern intersection of the city. Local journalists, social and political leaders, and people from all walks of life participated in the two-hour human chain and protest rally from 10 am to 12 noon.
The rally was addressed by Pirganj Press Club President Joynal Abedin Babul, General Secretary Nasrat Khoda Rana, Ranishankoil Press Club President Ashraful Islam, Gana Odhikar Parishad Central Student Union Vice-President Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Upazila Communist Party General Secretary Maturza Alam, Pirganj Press Club Vice-President Fazlul Kabir, Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee General Secretary and Journalist Mokaddes Hayat Milon, District Christian Association General Secretary Bishnupada Roy, Thakurgaon Online Journalist Association General Secretary Jewel Shanto, Journalists Nuron Nabi Rana, Mujibur Rahman, Badal Hossain, Sihab, Shakib, Businessman Sultan Alamgir and many others.
The event was hosted by Journalist Saidur Rahman Manik. The speakers said that not only a journalist was humiliated by taking away his mobile phone and press card while performing his professional duties, but also an attack on the dignity of the media. This is a naked interference in the freedom of the media. Which will not be accepted. They also said that those involved in the torture of journalists and those who have spread fear in the minds of the common people by openly practicing weapons in the heart of the city should be brought to justice immediately. The speakers warned that if the criminals are not arrested soon, the journalist community will go on a more stringent movement.
