Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 264 cans of foreign beer in a special operation in the area adjacent to Mongla Port in Bagerhat. The market value of the seized beers is about Tk.184,800.
Coastguard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed this information in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
He said that based on a secret information, members of Coast Guard of the Western Zone deployed Mongla conducted a raid in front of the engineering building adjacent to Mongla Port at around 1 am on Tuesday. During the raid, the foreign beer cans were recovered from there in an abandoned state.
The Coastguards told, the drug smugglers quickly fled after realizing the presence of the Coastguards. As a result, no one could be arrested in the operation. However, legal action is under way to seize the abandoned beer.
Coastguard Media Officer Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq said, drugs are pushing society and the young generation towards destruction. Therefore, Bangladesh Coastguard is regularly conducting anti-drug operations in the coastal and border areas of the country and this operation will continue in the future.
