At least seven persons have been arrested on charge of alleged gang rape of a housewife while she visiting the capital with her husband on Saturday.
The rape incident occurred on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Friday night.
Sheikh Muktazul Islam, Assitant Commissonner (AC) of Uttara Zone of DMP confirmed the matter to the media saying that the victim woman came to Bonorupa area of the city with her husband for hanging out around 9.30 pm on Friday night.
At the time seven persons abducted them and demands ransom tk 3 lacks from them.
Later, the gang released the husband to manage ransom money.
But the victim husband called to the 999 to get assist from police.
On information, a patrol team of Khilkhet police station joined the operation along with the victim husband and rushed to the spot to rescue the victim.
The accused ran away on sensing the presence of the police when police came near the spot. Several teams of Khilkhet police station conducted an operation to arrest the accused and managed to arrest the accused on Saturday (June 29) afternoon, AC Muktazul Islam said.
The details of the incident will be disclosed in a press conference on Sunday morning at Khilkhet police station, AC added.
