Matlab Dakhshin Upazila Health Complex’s Emergency Department was vandalised by angry mob centering the death of a college student due to the alleged negligence of on- duty doctor on Thursday .
The deceased student was identified as Sifat(21), son of Md Sharif Khan -resident of Charmukundi village under Matlab Paura area . He was a student of HSC Class at Matlab Govt Degree College.
Family sources said, Sifat was suffering from acute fever at his home on Thursday noon.
Then he was rushed and admitted to Matlab Health Complex and was treated by Dr Mosharraf. He was given a bed on the verandah for want of any seat due to the rush of patients.
He was pushed a saline and when it was finished, he went to wash room. While returning to bed, he suddenly fell down on the floor.
At once, on duty nurse was called in and Sifat was sent to the Emergency Room. After ECG, Sifat was declared dead by on- duty doctor Ratan Das.
It was just a bolt from the blue and triggered a serious resentment and anger among Sifat’s friends and relatives and locals who later gheraoed the emergency dept for two hours and the mob vandalised the Emergency Dept.
At this situation, the doctors and nurses managed to flee. The mob also attempted to vandalise the residence of doctors.
The mob demanded of the authorities to punish the doctor for negligence of duties for which the student Sifat died.

On getting the information, ASP Circle (Matlab ) Jabiur Hasnain along with OC Saleh Ahamad and police team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and quelled the situation.
Contacted, Matlab Dakhshin Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer Dr Golam Raihan has however denied any negligence of duties by on duty doctor and nurses regarding treatment of the student Sifat.
Finally, at the request of the close kin and friends and class mates of deceased Sifat , his dead body was later handed over to the father Sharif Hossain Khan upon his application and allowed it for burial.
Matlab Dakhshin Thana OC Saleh Ahmed has told the correspondent that no case was filed in this regard.
