The reform process in Bangladesh is entirely homegrown and will remain so, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.

He stressed that while Bangladesh’s friendly partners and well-wishers support the reform agenda, the process will continue to be fully transparent and locally driven.

“The reform process is entirely homegrown. We are maintaining the highest level of transparency,” Alam told reporters at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday in response to a question.

Previously, various commissions, including those for electoral reform, police reform, judiciary reform, anti-corruption reform, public administration reform, and constitutional reform, submitted their reports. This led to the formation of a national consensus-building commission.

Alam explained that the consensus-building commission had already held its first meeting, with further discussions scheduled in the coming days.

He noted that extensive consultations between political parties and the commission would take place to ensure inclusivity in the process.

“You see, the entire process is homegrown,” he reiterated, adding that while technical support may be needed in certain areas, no decision has been made regarding its acceptance.

“We have not yet decided whether we will accept technical support or not. But the reforms are entirely homegrown, involving our people and experts.”

The press secretary assured that the interim government remains transparent and open throughout this transition.

As Bangladesh undergoes significant reforms, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has extended the UN’s support in promoting peace, national dialogue, trust, and reconciliation.

“You can count on the UN to be your steadfast partner, working alongside the people of Bangladesh to help build a sustainable and equitable future for all,” Guterres stated during his recently concluded visit.

CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Ahammad Foyez were also present at the briefing.
