Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday reaffirmed the government’s full preparedness to hold the forthcoming national elections scheduled for February next year.
“We are fully ready to conduct the next general election and do not foresee any difficulties,” he told reporters following a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Secretariat.
The Home Adviser called upon all stakeholders, especially the media, to extend their cooperation in ensuring a smooth and fair electoral process.
Replying to a separate query, Jahangir Alam said the government has approved a Tk 400 crore allocation for the procurement of body-worn cameras, which will be purchased through due procedures.
He further informed that the authorities are prioritizing several measures, including the exclusion of officials who served in the past three parliamentary elections from upcoming poll duties, and the provision of comprehensive training to law enforcement personnel for efficient management of election responsibilities.
“Our law enforcers are undergoing specialized training to enhance their readiness for election-related duties,” he added.
Regarding recent major fire incidents-such as the devastating blaze at Dhaka airport’s Cargo Village-the Home Adviser said multiple investigation committees have been formed to identify the causes.
“The actual reasons behind these incidents will be known after receiving the probe reports,” he stated.
Jahangir Alam also announced that e-passport services will be launched at Bangladesh’s missions abroad by December this year.
He noted that the government is actively considering reducing passport fees for expatriate Bangladeshis, while ensuring improved facilities for them on flights and at airports.
