Kitchen market: Hilsa prices unchanged, vegetables soar

Vegetable prices in the capital’s markets have risen somewhat with an average increase by Tk 10 to 20 per kg. At the same time, the price of broiler chicken has also gone up compared to last week. However, hilsa fish is being sold at the same price as before.
Such a scenario was observed on Friday while visiting Kazi Para and Shewrapara markets in the capital.
The market visit revealed that all kinds of vegetables prices have increased by Tk 10 to 20 per kg. Vegetables like ridge gourd, bitter gourd, long beans, eggplant, taro stem, pointed gourd, and snake gourd are being sold at Tk 80 to 100 per kg.
Green chilies, depending on variety, are selling at Tk 160 to 200 per kg; papaya at Tk 25 to 30 per kg; each bottle gourd at Tk 60 to 70; tomatoes at Tk 150 to 180 per kg; Indian carrots at Tk 120 to 140; local cucumber at Tk 80; and hybrid cucumber at Tk 60 per kg.
A set of four lemons costs Tk 15 to 30, coriander leaves Tk 350 per kg, a set of four green bananas Tk 40, ash gourd Tk 60 each, capsicum Tk 400 per kg, spine gourd Tk 100, radish Tk 80, beans Tk 160, and sweet pumpkin Tk 50 per kg.
Red amaranth is selling at Tk 20 per bunch, bottle gourd leaves at Tk 40, two bundles of water spinach at Tk 20, Malabar spinach at Tk 40, and two bundles of stem amaranth at Tk 40. Potatoes are being sold at Tk 25 per kg and local onions at Tk 75 per kg.
In poultry, Sonali cock is selling at Tk 320 per kg, Sonali hybrid at Tk 290, red layer chicken at Tk 300 per kg (down by Tk 10), white layer chicken at Tk 290, broiler chicken up by Tk 10 to Tk 190, and local chicken at Tk 590-600 per kg.
On the other hand, hilsa fish is being sold at the same prices as last week. In the markets, 1-kg hilsa costs 2000 to Tk 2,200, 700-gram hilsa Tk 2,100, hilsa weighing over 500 grams Tk 1,500, 300-gram hilsa Tk 1,200, and hilsa weighing 150-200 grams Tk 700-750.
Farmed catfish (shing), depending on size, is selling at Tk 350-550 per kg; local shing at Tk 1,000-1,200; rui fish (depending on size) up to Tk 400-550 per kg; local magur catfish Tk 800-1,000; mrigel Tk 350-400; farmed pangas Tk 200-235; shrimp Tk 800-1,400; boal fish Tk 600-800; large katla Tk 400-550; poa fish Tk 350-400; pabda Tk 400-450; tilapia Tk 220; koi fish Tk 220-230; mola Tk 500; batashi tengra Tk 1,300; tengra Tk 600-800; kachki Tk 500; and mixed small fish Tk 220 per kg.
Beef is selling at Tk 780-800 per kg, beef liver at Tk 800, cow’s head meat at Tk 450, cow’s tripe at Tk 350-400, and mutton at Tk 1,200 per kg.
Local ginger has decreased by Tk 60, now selling at Tk 120-140 per kg; Chinese ginger at Tk 200; local garlic at Tk 100; Indian garlic at Tk 140; local lentils at Tk 160; mung beans at Tk 180; chickpeas at Tk 110; and khesari pulses at Tk 140 per kg.
Traders in Tejgaon area told the media that after rice imports from India, domestic corporate companies reduced the price of all types of rice by Tk 50 per sack-roughly Tk 1 per kg.
In rice, although wholesale prices have dropped, retail markets are still selling rice at earlier prices. According to TCB data, the rice market has remained stable this week. The agency collected data from different markets in the capital on Thursday and published it on its website.
According to their figures, in Dhaka’s retail markets, fine varieties like Miniket and Nazirshail are selling at Tk 75-85 per kg, medium varieties like Paijam and Atash at Tk 60-75 per kg, and coarse varieties at Tk 55-60 per kg. Wheat flour prices have remained stable over the week: loose flour at Tk 45-52, packaged flour at Tk 55-65, loose maida at Tk 55-65, and packaged maida at Tk 65-75 per kg.
In the egg market, a dozen red eggs are being sold at Tk 130, duck eggs at Tk 220 per dozen, four local chicken eggs at Tk 110, and four Sonali cock eggs at Tk 70.
