Barishal Correspondent :
For the past 4/5 days, Hilsa has started being caught in the sea adjacent to Kuakata coast in Patuakhali district.
Although its price has already decreased in the wholesale market, the price has not decreased in the retail market.
So the delicious silver Hilsa remains out of reach of retail buyers.
As the desired Hilsa is caught in the nets of fishermen in the sea, the busyness of owners, employees, and fishermen in at least 150 shops of Kuakata, Alipur and Mahipur fisheries port in the area has increased.
Every day, wholesalers and moneylenders from different parts of the country come to the market and load trucks with Hilsa.
Fish traders said that the full season of Hilsa is from Jaishthya to Ashwin month of Bangla calendar.
Although half of the season has already ended, fishermen have not been able to get any desired Hilsa in the sea due to adverse weather conditions. Currently, the sea is somewhat calm as the weather conditions are favorable.
As a result, fishermen of all small and big trawlers are getting more and more hilsa.
All in all, the owners and workers of the fishing port no longer have time to sit idle. Meanwhile, although the price of hilsa has decreased in the wholesale market, it has not affected the retail market.
Hilsa is still beyond the purchasing power of the common people.
Since hilsa is sold at a high price in the retail market, middle-class people are struggling to buy hilsa. And for the lower-class people, hilsa remains a dream. According wholesale market on Tuesday, hilsa weighing 1 kg and above was sold at a price of 70,000 to 75,000 taka per mound, hilsa weighing 600 grams to 900 grams was sold at a price of 58,000 taka, besides, hilsa weighing 300 grams to 600 grams was sold at a price of 21,500 taka per mound.
