High-flying start for Bangladesh thrashing Lanka

Bangladesh Under-20 Women’s Football team made a high-flying start after thrashing Sri Lanka Under-20 Women’s Football team by nine goals to one in their first match of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-20 Women’s Championship at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital on Friday.

Bangladesh led the first half 3-0.

Sagorika of Bangladesh hit a hat-trick and her teammate Munki Akhter scored two goals and Sapna Rani, Sinha Jahan Shikha, Rupa Akter, Shanti Mardi netted one goal each.

On the other hand, Jasotharan Layansika pulled off one for the losers.

Bangladesh and India emerged jointly champions in the last edition (2024). Bangladesh clinched the championship title for four times among five editions of this meet.

A number of nine booters have been included in the Bangladesh Under-20 Women’s Football team, who are the members of Bangladesh National Women’s Football team. Bangladesh National Women’s Football team reached the final round of AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2026 under supervision of Head Coach of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Peter Butler. Bangladesh Under-20 Women’s Football team have taken preparation for this tournament under the supervision of Head Coach Peter Butler.

Sapna Rani put her team ahead by a spectacular free-kick in the second minute of the play.
After three minutes Munki Akhter made it 2-0 by a solo effort.
Sagorika scored her first goal using a right-side cross from her teammate Sinha Jahan Shikha in the 37th minute of the game.

Munki Akhter scored her second goal capitalizing a left-side pass of her teammate Sagorika in the 48th minute of the game.

After one minute, Sinha Jahan Shikha increased the tally into 5-0 capitalizing a cross of her teammate Shanti Mardi.

Sagorika scored her second goal utilising a pass of her teammate Bonna Khatun in the 52nd minute of the match.

Sagorika fulfilled her hat-trick using a right-side pass of her teammate Puja Das in the 58th minute of the clash.

Rupa Akter made it 8-0 capitalising a corner kick of her teammate Bonna Khatun.
Jasotharan Layansika retuned one using a weakness of Bangladesh defenders in the 90th minute of the match.

Shanti Marda sealed the fate of the match (9-1) in the injury time of the second half.
Bangladesh will take on Nepal in their second match on July 13.

The red-and-green out-fit will face Bhutan in their third match on July 15 and play against Bhutan in their fourth match on July 17.

Bangladesh will meet Sri Lanka in their fifth match on July 19. The hosts will face Nepal in their last match on July 21.

All the matches will be held at the same venue.
