The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed Tripura’s Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad and Kolkata’s Acting Deputy High Commissioner Sikdar Md Ashraful Rahman to return to Dhaka for an indefinite period.
A brief notice was issued directing them to return on Wednesday.
According to sources from the foreign affairs ministry, they have been instructed to return to Dhaka in order to discuss the different situation in India. Responding to the 24-hour notice, they have already joined in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, with the return of the officials to Dhaka, the Kolkata deputy high commission is temporarily left “absentee leadership.” However, visa operations remain unaffected and continue as usual.
Sources from the ministry have further revealed that Dhaka has already instructed Shabab Bin Ahmed (minister, Bangladesh Embassy in The Hague) to join the Kolkata mission. However, it is expected to take some time for his arrival.
