Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-E-Azam announced on Monday that July Warriors would receive monthly allowances of Tk15,000 and Tk20,000.

He stated that the July Directorate is set to be launched soon, and those who lost their lives in last year’s July uprising would be officially recognised as ‘July Martyrs.’ Meanwhile, the injured will be acknowledged as ‘July Warriors’ with designated titles.

“They will be provided with certificates and identity cards,” he said while addressing reporters following a session of his ministry on the second day of the DC Conference in Dhaka.

The adviser outlined that July Warriors would receive financial assistance and rehabilitation benefits under three categories. “Category A warriors will be granted a one-time payment of Tk5 lakh along with a Tk20,000 monthly allowance.

Category B warriors will receive a one-time payment of Tk3 lakh and a Tk15,000 monthly allowance. Category C warriors will be prioritised for rehabilitation and government job opportunities,” he stated.

When asked about the stance of the future government, Farooq expressed confidence that the incoming administration would uphold the ideals of the July uprising. “We believe the next government will continue to prioritise the concerns of July Martyrs and Warriors,” he remarked.

He also instructed all deputy commissioners (DCs) to identify fraudulent freedom fighters, emphasising that those found guilty of making false claims would face accountability. “The Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JMC) has been restructured, and the definition of a freedom fighter is being revised. Verifications will be conducted at the district level to identify and take action against fraudulent claimants,” Farooq-E-Azam stated.

As an adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, he also highlighted a shift in the procurement of relief materials. “To ensure faster distribution, decentralisation, and greater transparency, relief materials will now be sourced locally. Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will oversee procurement under the supervision of DCs, with an allocation of Tk3 crore for each upazila,” he explained.

UNOs will procure supplies based on specific needs, addressing inefficiencies caused by centralised purchasing. Additionally, DCs have been instructed to monitor local rehabilitation efforts, as well as TR and Kabikha programmes, to ensure the effective implementation of infrastructure projects.
