Heavy rainfall has lashed Dhaka and other parts of the country, leaving many neighbourhoods in the capital swamped. Meteorologists have warned that the trend could continue for the next four days, raising the risk of further flooding.

Streets in areas such as Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Moghbazar, Dainik Bangla Intersection, and Kakrail were submerged, forcing residents to wade through water while trying to reach their destinations. According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely not only in Dhaka but also across all eight divisions of the country. The intensity of the showers may vary, but weather watchers warned of the possibility of very heavy downpours over the coming days.

Besides, those venturing out for urgent needs experienced heavy traffic jams and long waits for public transport. The rain also affected private vehicles and CNG-run autorickshaws on main roads, worsening the situation. In some areas, rickshaw-pullers took advantage of the waterlogged streets and congestion by charging higher fares.

A meteorologist confirmed that due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions, combined with active monsoon winds, rainfall ranging from 44-88mm (heavy) to 188mm per 24 hours (very heavy) may occur in parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions over the next 72 hours.

It also warned of potential landslides in the hill tracts of the Chattogram Division, as well as temporary waterlogging in parts of Dhaka and Chattogram cities due to the heavy downpours.
