The High Court upheld the 10-year sentence against Haji Selim in a case filed over acquiring illegal assets on Tuesday. The HC bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq passed the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
The ACC filed the corruption case against Haji Salim with Lalbagh Police Station on October 24, 2007, on charge of amassing illegal assets. On April 27, 2008, he was sentenced to 13 years jail in the case. He was also fined Tk 20 lakh.

On October 25, 2009, Haji Selim appealed to the High Court against the verdict. On January 2, 2011, the High Court quashed his sentence. The ACC appealed against the High Court order.

Following the appeal hearing, on January 12, 2015, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court quashed the judgment of the High Court and asked for re-hearing. After that, the appeal was not heard for about five years.

The ACC recently took the initiative to hear the appeal of the case. Following this, on November 11, the High Court summoned all the documents (LCR) of the case in the Judicial Court.

After a few days of the hearing, the appeal was awaited for the verdict on February 24. Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim is currently out on bail in the corruption case.
