The High Court (HC) has canceled the appointment of 6,531 candidates who had passed the final results in the third phase for the position of Assistant Teachers in government primary schools across the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. The court has directed that new appointments be made strictly based on merit.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday (February 6) by the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razi.
Earlier, on November 19, the High Court had suspended the appointment process for six months, citing concerns over the selection method. The court ruled that the appointments were made based on a quota system, which required further legal review.
Additionally, the court had issued a rule questioning the legitimacy of the recruitment process. Following legal proceedings, the HC has now declared the entire appointment process void, ensuring that future recruitment adheres to a merit-based system.
The decision is expected to have significant implications for government hiring practices and may prompt a review of recruitment policies in the education sector.
