The High Court has ordered to form a committee to probe alleged involvement of law enforcers in the Narayanganj seven murders. An HC bench issues the suo-moto rule on Monday, a day after one of the victim’s relatives accused the RAB of taking Tk 60 million to carry out the abductions and murders. The bench of justices Md Rezaul Haque and Gobinda Chandra Tagore issued the rule after Supreme Court lawyer Shamim Sarkar drew its attention over the media reports on the matter. The court also specified who should be included in the seven-member strong committee. The body should consist of two members each from the ministries of public administration, home and law headed by an additional secretary of the public administration ministry. It also said the members should at least be at the rank of a deputy secretary. The HC asked the committee to start work within seven days of the order and also asked the committee to update it about the progress of the probe. It also ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide security to the eyewitnesses to the abduction. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been ordered to start an inquiry over those who have been alleged of being involved in the abduction. The elite force has already formed a four-member committee headed by its additional director Aftabuddin Ahmed over the allegation. The High Court ordered to keep out RAB from the investigations in the wake of allegation against the force. It also ordered the police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter alongside the Detective Branch.— bdnews24.com
