HC orders completion of Magura child rape trial within 180 days

The High Court (HC) has directed the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal to conclude the trial concerning the rape of a child at her sister’s home in Magura within 180 days.
Additionally, the court also directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all pictures of the child from newspapers, online portals and all social media within 24 hours.
The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury issued the ruling on Sunday.
Barrister Mahsib Hossain brought the newspaper report to the court’s attention. During the hearing, he urged the court to take necessary measures to protect the child’s health.
On Wednesday, an 8-year-old child was raped at her sister’s house in Magura.
The child’s condition is critical, and she was transferred from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital to CMH Hospital.
In connection with the incident, Magura police have arrested four people so far.
