NN Online Report:

The High Court of Bangladesh has issued a rule regarding the tragic deaths of children caused by gunfire from a helicopter during the quota reform movement. The court has asked why an international investigation commission should not be formed to probe the incident, and why the families of the deceased children should not be compensated with 1 crore Bangladeshi Taka each.

The rule was issued by a High Court bench consisting of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Md. Bazlur Rahman. The next hearing for this case has been scheduled for September 5, 2024.

The rule follows a writ petition filed requesting compensation for the families of the victims and calling for a judicial investigation led by High Court judges.

The petition was presented by Advocate Taimur Alam Khondkar, while the state was represented by Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman. The petition highlights demands for substantial compensation and an independent judicial inquiry into the incident.
