The High Court (HC) on Thursday formed a three-member committee to probe allegations of irregularities in allocating plots at Purbachal for ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi passed the order, also issuing a rule in this regard. The court came up with the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition, reports BSS.
“Headed by retired High Court Justice Miftah Uddin Choudhury, the two other members of the committee are Lawyer Jasimuddin Sarker and Engineer Alamgir Hasin. The committee has been asked to probe allegations of irregularities in allocating RAJUK plots from 2009 to 2024. The court ordered the Housing and Public Works Secretary to submit the committee’s report before it in the next four months,” Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Mojibur Rahman told BSS.
The court also issued a rule, asking the authorities concerned to explain why it shall not pass an order for legal action by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against the culprits involved in plot allocation irregularities and the beneficiaries.
Ten Supreme Court lawyers filed the writ petition on September 11.
Advocate Mohammad Misbah Uddin moved the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney Generals Mohammad Mojibur Rahman and Nur Mohammad Azmi argued for the state.
