Jodge Mia case: HC dispose of controversy over Aug 21 blast

With some observations, the High Court on Sunday disposed of the plea that sought to revoke the evidence made by prosecution witness (PW) Jodge Mia before the trial court in the August 21 grenade blast case a decade ago.
After hearing both sides, an HC division bench comprising Justice M A Hafiz and Justice M Ruhul Quddus passed the order saying that the matter has been disposed of with some observations.
Although the plea is not granted, but the door has been kept open for the defence in the future, said
the court order. Accused Ujjal had moved the High Court as the trial court rejected his plea of cancelling the evidence of Jodge Mia in the case.
Emerging from the court, Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir told reporters that following the HC order there is no problem to accept the testimony made by PW Jodge Mia before the trial court in the August 21 grenade attack case.
Meanwhile, defence counsel AJ Mohammad Ali said the HC did not dismiss their plea. The matter will be clear after releasing the HC observations, he said, adding that they might go for appeal against the HC order.
On September 30, PW-104 Jodge Mia gave evidence before the trial court as he got relieved of the charge as an accused after his name was subsequently deleted from the charge sheet considering his statement as tutored and false.
The grenade attacks on the Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004 left 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, wife of late President Zillur Rahman, killed and over 200 others, including Sheikh Hasina, now the Prime Minister, injured.
