The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has given the green light to two separate cases against former Member of Parliament and ex-chairman of Premier Bank PLC, HBM Iqbal, and his son, Imran.

In addition, the ACC has issued notices to Iqbal’s wife and another son after discovering unexplained assets registered in their names.

ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development on Thursday.
According to the ACC, in the first approved case, Iqbal is accused of illegally accumulating wealth worth Tk62.24 crore, while his son Imran is reported to have amassed Tk5.03 crore unlawfully. Both cases have been approved under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

Furthermore, notices have been sent to Iqbal’s wife, Anjuman Ara Shilpi, and his other son, Moin Iqbal, regarding their assets. Shilpi reportedly owns assets worth Tk10.82 crore, of which Tk37.67 lakh could not be accounted for from her known sources of income.

Moin Iqbal has assets valued at Tk47.70 crore, against a known income of Tk47.38 crore, leaving Tk31.50 lakh categorized as unexplained wealth.
The ACC has instructed both Shilpi and Moin to submit detailed wealth statements under Section 26(1) of the ACC Act.
