Bangladesh Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha stated he is ready to hold a discussion with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding his future with the Bangladesh Cricket team.

Faruque Ahmed was named the new president of BCB, following the sudden departure of ex-board president Nazmul Hassan Papon after the fall of his political party due to anti-government protests.

It’s well known that Faruque is not an admirer of Hathurusingha’s coaching, as he has called for Sri Lanka’s coach to be removed from the position many times.

Also, there are speculations mulling that Hathurusingha will be relieved of his duties despite the historic Test victory against Pakistan. However, he intends to discuss his future and plans with the BCB after the Test series.
On the other hand, Hathurusingha, earlier said in a press conference before the first Test that he would accept any decision the board makes regarding his role as head coach.

“I understand when there is a new leadership comes in they have their own views. But I am looking forward to go and get a chance to speak to them. That’s number one,” said Hathuruisngha in the pre-match conference.

“Other one is my job is to prepare the team the best I can and then whatever the hard work we have done last few months and no different to that. That’s our focus for the game,” he added.

From 2014 to 2016, a rift emerged between Faruque and Hathurusingha during his first term as head coach and Faruque’s second term as chief selector.

To address the tensions, then BCB president Papon made a two-tier selection process, allowing the head coach to have a say in selections. However, Hathurusingha reportedly used this authority to interfere in Faruque’s role, which prompted him to resign from the BCB.
