Monjur Hossain, claimed to be son of Fajilatunnesa Mujib, the mother of ousted prime minister Hasina is proposed to be chairman of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Foundation which ignited anger among the people alongside the organisation.
Sources said Zakia Sultana, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Industries, has tried to make the pro-Hasina man BIDS Director Monjur Hossain as Chairman of SME foundation.
Business people know Monjur Hossain as a one of the beneficiaries of the deposed Hasina government and also one of the designers of so called ‘smart Bangladesh’ and ‘vision 2041’.
He was also one of the persons who wrote the Awami League’s January 7, 2024 election manifesto.
His facebook page and records of TV talk shows proved that he was a strong political activist of the Awami League and was involved in publicizing the party’s vision in the last 16 years.
SME foundation people said that there are questions over the research work of Monjur Hossain and there are allegations of thieving research work against him. Earlier, such an allegation was proved over his research work titled, ‘Impact assessment of SME foundation’s activities’ and that was refused by the SME foundation.
Business people protested strongly against the initiative of making Monjur Hossain the chairman of the SME foundation, saying such steps will be very harmful for the advancement of the very important organization.
