Hasina-Rehana among 351 sued for killing vegetable vendor

A month after the killing of vegetable seller Sajjad Hossain by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur, his wife Jitu Begum filed a murder case in the court.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and 57 others have been accused. Apart from this, at least 300 people have been made unknown accused.
The case was filed in the court of Judge Raju Ahmed Babu of Rangpur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (August 20) afternoon. The court accepted the case and ordered the Kotwali police station to start investigation.
Advocate Mofazzal Hossain Bakul confirmed the case and told reporters that on July 19, Awami League and other organization leaders and activists fired indiscriminately on the protest of students and the public in the city market, Rammohan market and Kailash Ranjan school road areas of Rangpur city. On that day, vegetable seller Sajjad Hossain was shot dead by the police.
Other notable accused in the case are former Law Minister Anisul Haque, Hasanul Haque Inu, Naimul Islam Khan, Rashed Khan Menon, A Arafat, ApuUkil, former MP Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury Duke, Zakir Hossain Sarkar, Asaduzzaman Bablu, Badarganj Mayor Tutul Chowdhury, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun along with other eight police officers, upazila and union parishad chairman along with district, metropolitan and upazilaAwami League leaders. Apart from this, 300 unidentified people have been accused.
Accepting the case, the court directed the Metropolitan Kotwali police station to record the case. A total of five murder cases have been registered in Rangpur. In four of them, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been accused of murder.
