Hasina guilty for Khaleda Zia’s fragile health: Rizvi
Staff Reporter :
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday alleged that the serious decline in BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s health is a direct consequence of the decisions and actions of Awami League President and ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Speaking at a doa mahfil arranged by Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal in Nayapaltan seeking Khaleda Zia’s recovery, Rizvi said, “Begum Khaleda Zia is battling this critical condition today because of Hasina’s behaviour. Hasina has become synonymous with broken promises, whereas Khaleda Zia never sought undue privileges and always trusted the people.”
He said the spontaneous outpouring of emotion and concern for Khaleda Zia across the country shows the profound affection citizens hold for her.
“The love, respect, and longing that people are demonstrating nationwide – we, her activists and supporters, can never repay it,” he added. Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of a long history of reneging on commitments, recalling that she publicly declared she would not take part in elections under Hussain Muhammad Ershad, only to change the decision the very next day.
He further alleged that the Awami League was the main force behind the agitation in the 1990s demanding the caretaker government system, but later abolished it after coming to power.
He noted that Khaleda Zia accepted the caretaker formula at the time to prevent violence and bloodshed involving youth and children.
“Hasina always wants everything to go her way, while Khaleda Zia makes decisions keeping the people’s welfare at the centre,” Rizvi said.
Referring to events in 2011, he mentioned that even prominent Awami League figures-Suranjit Sengupta, Tofail Ahmed, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury-and Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon had advised Hasina to keep the caretaker system for two more terms, but she rejected the suggestion, according to UNB.
Emphasising the widespread public prayers and good wishes for Khaleda Zia, Rizvi said people everywhere are hoping for her swift recovery. He expressed optimism that she will soon return among the people and lead the nation through this turbulent period.
