Harvest Plus aims to promote biofortified crops for public health growth

The International Food Policy Research Institute Harvest Plus program’s Reacts-in Project organised a discussion meeting with policy makers and coordinators of project partners at Ranishankail Upazila Parishad meeting room in Thakurgaon on Monday.

Agriculture and Climate Change RDRS Bangladesh team leader Dr. Salahuddin Ahmed presided over the discussion meeting. Upazila Executive Officer Rakibul Hasan was present as the chief guest.

Special guests were Upazila Agriculture Officer Sahidul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Dr. Abdus Samad Chowdhury. SK Abdullah Upazila Food Officer, Zakyul Hasan.

In the discussion meeting, it is considered possible to fill the deficiency of zinc in the body of every human being with zinc rice. The Reacts-In project is being implemented in Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh, along with three other countries, through a consortium of World Vision, Harvest Plus, Nutrition International and McGill University, funded by the Government of Canada. The Harvest Plus activities of this project are being implemented by RDRS Bangladesh through ESD.

HarvestPlus also develops and promotes biofortified food crops rich in vitamins, minerals, proof of fertilization, providing global leadership in technology to improve nutrition and public health.

Harvest Plus is working on extension and adaptation of zinc rice, zinc wheat, zinc and iron lentil in Bangladesh.
At present in Bangladesh BriDhan 72 and Binadhan 20 in Amon season and BriDhan 74, 84, 100 and 102 zinc rice in Boro season are widely cultivated
