Hallmark MD Tanvir dies at DMCH

Md Tanvir Mahmud, Managing Director (MD) of Hallmark Group and a convict in the Hallmark loan scam cases, passed away on Saturday night while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was 55.

AIG (Development) of the Prisons Department, Md Jannat-ul Farhad, confirmed that Tanvir Mahmud died at around 10:30pm.

Tanvir had been serving prison sentences in several cases lodged with Ramna Police Station and Kafrul Police Station.

According to prison authorities, he had long been suffering from various critical health issues, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, diabetes, benign prostatic enlargement (BEP), bronchial asthma, chronic pancreatitis, vomiting, and urinary retention.

As his condition worsened on Saturday, he was transferred from Dhaka Central Jail to DMCH at 1:35pm and admitted around 4pm. He was kept in Bed No. 19 of Ward 602 under close medical observation.

Officials said his health declined sharply soon after admission, and doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 10:30pm.
