Director and scriptwriter Habib Shakil received the Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haq Gold Medal at a ceremony hosted by the Human Rights Cultural Society at the Child Welfare Council. Despite his absence, Shakil’s achievements were celebrated by notable figures, including former BTRC chairman Syed Maghur Morshed.

Shakil, known for his impactful work in television, film, and documentaries over the past 15 years, has gained acclaim for projects like Life of Geeta Hijra and Firiyea Daw. His contributions to web series and corporate films further highlight his significant role in Bangladesh’s entertainment industry.

Over 15 years in the industry, Habib Shakil has made a notable impact in television, film, and documentaries. He began his directorial career in 2009 with the documentary Life of Geeta Hijra, which spotlighted the struggles of the third-gender community in Bangladesh. His 2012 short film Firiyea Daw earned international acclaim, being showcased at the 12th International Short and Independent Film Festival.

Shakil is renowned for TV series such as Porer Meye, Kacher Putul, and Sot Maa, and has also directed influential web series like Kiss of Judas and documentaries like Adharer Jatri, which tackles sensitive topics like suicide.

Beyond television and film, Shakil has worked on corporate audiovisual projects for leading companies, cementing his status as one of Bangladesh’s highest-paid directors. He is a member of the Directors’ Guild of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Shilpokola Academy and has served as a jury member for the Short Film Festival Bogura in 2018. Shakil has received multiple awards throughout his distinguished career.
