A suspected member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was reportedly killed on early Thursday in a gunfight between UPDF members and joint forces in Kichingchara, located in the Langadu upazila of Rangamati district.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Langadu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Wahid said, “Tipped off, a team of joint forces conducted a drive in the area around 5:30am.”
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing the joint forces members to fire back, leaving one dead on the spot.
One rifle, 12 mobile phones, three fake Bangladesh Army uniforms, two NID cards, five bags, 10 blankets and other important documents were also seized from his possession.
The body was kept at the Rangamati General Hospital morgue.
