Enamul Haq Shamim, ex-President of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was shot at by some unknown miscreants at Dhanmondi in the capital on Thursday morning. He received two bullet wounds in his left hand, DMP’s Ramna Zone DC Maruf Hossain and hospital sources said.Shamim came under the gun attack at around 9:30am when he, along with his uncle Nasir Hossain, was going to Stamford University at Siddheswary, said victim’s driver Kamal Hossain.He is a member of Awami League’s central committee and resident of the city’s Dhanmondi area, said his driver.Three unknown miscreants riding on a motorcycle opened fire at the car near Ibn Sina Hospital, leaving Shamim injured, Dhanmondi police said quoting the driver.He was first taken to Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Mozammel Haque, In-charge of DMCH police camp.He was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at around 2:30pm for better treatment. On information, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, AL Joint- General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed visited Shamim at the DMCH.Benajir Ahmed told the journalists that the law enforcers had already been asked to nab the attackers as soon as possible.Meanwhile, the BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession at Dhaka University, Islamic University and other universities, protesting the attack.Coming from Shariatpur, Shamim was Vice-President of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Central Students’ Union from 1989 to 1991.
