A different atmosphere prevails in the burn unit where parents and relatives’ cry widen the air with grief and despair.

On Wednesday, a number of parents, relatives, and classmates of the burnt injured students have been seen gathering at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute and their cries of anguish widen the air of the surrounding area.

Many guardians were seen weeping outside the wards, ICU and others parts of the burn unit. The desperate parents are trying to identify their children by their scorched uniforms as many students are still missing. The institute’s corridor was filled with cries and chaos, some screaming in despair, others frozen in shock.

Among the injured was Zarif Farhan, 13, a seventh-grade student at Milestone School who suffered 38% burns on Monday’s incident.

His elder sister Zareen Tasnim told The New Nation that Zarif is my only brother and he also very beloved of my parents. Her brother’s condition is not better; his physical condition has deteriorated compared to Monday.

“We have nothing to do here. Only Almighty Allah can save my only one beloved brother”, she said.

Zareen also said, “I myself studied at Milestone School. So, in my imagination, I remember the classroom-campus of the past where the plane crashed”.
It is known that his father, businessman Habibur Rahman, has been living in Uttara near the school for the convenience of his son and daughter.

Tasmia Khandokar, 11, a fourth grader of the school, also suffered 8% burns on Monday’s incident.
When asked about the devastating incident, Tasmia’s mother Sahana Akter told The New Nation that during the plane crash her daughter was leaving the class room heading to down by stairs.
“Due to this my daughter is now out of danger”, she said.

Same fourth grader Tasnova also admitted to the burn unit with 10% burnt injuries. Her relatives said that Tasnova and some of her others friends left the building breaking open the window of the class room. As a result they are now comparatively in better condition with minor injury.
Another fourth grader Albira, 11, also admitted here with serious burnt injured, she added.

Besides teacher Maherin Chowdhury, another two teachers — Lorin and Lina — also received serious burn injuries and are taking treatment in this burn unit. Lorin also helped many students to pull out the class rooms, Tasmia’s mother Sahana akter further said.

The whole nation is now recalling with due respect Maherin Chowdhury, a teacher and coordinator at the Diabari campus of Milestone School and College.

Maherin suffered 100% burns while rescuing at least 20 students from the burning primary school building of the institute after a fighter jet crashed into it on Monday (21 July). She succumbed from her critical injuries.

Afia, 9, a three grader student of the school is still missing. Her mother burst into tear in front of the burn unit as she cannot trace the whereabouts of her beloved child yet.

Meanwhile, the condition of eight patients of the Uttara plane crash tragedy is in critical condition. A total 44 patients are being treated at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).
NIBPS Director Nasir Uddin disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday.

All victims are being treated in three categories based on the severity of their injuries, where eight are in critical condition, 13 in severe condition and 23 are intermediate condition.
