Art & Culture Report :
The opening ceremony of the group exhibition of mono-prints titled Urban Experiences jointly organised by the Bengal Foundation and the American Centre of the US Embassy in Dhaka, was held at the Bengal Art Lounge in the city’s Gulshan area recently.
Viraj LeBailly, Director of the American Centre of the US Embassy in Dhaka, and Sadia Rahman, Deputy Director General of Bengal Foundation, jointly inaugurated the exhibition, which will continue till July 19.
Artworks of 50 artists from Dhaka and Rajshahi are on display in the exhibition. Abul Khair, Chairman of Bengal Foundation, Hadrien Diez, Manager of Bengal Art Lounge, among others, were also present at the inauguration of the exhibition.
The works presented at Bengal Art Lounge were made during a series of three joint poetry and printmaking workshops on the theme of the urban experience, a defining feature of contemporary life in Bangladesh.
The workshop united young printmaking and poetry artists and encouraged them to seek positive and negative aspects of ‘the urban.’
The workshops were conducted by Andrew Saftel (master print-maker) and Whitney Baker (litterateur).
The exhibition was ended by a surprise poetry and dance performance by the participants from the workshop. n
