Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Sunday said the government has not received any letter from “Adani” regarding stopping power supply to Bangladesh. The government condemns anything like that.

He made this remark in a press briefing with journalists at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday.

Shafiqul said, “Dues are not the current government’s but the previous government’s legacy. Adani was paid $91 million last August, almost double than the payment of July. Efforts are being made to speed up the dues payment process.

“So far Adani owes $700 million, and we have the ability to pay it. We are working to pay the dues as soon as possible.”

Earlier, a report by the Indian media Times of India said India’s Adani Power has set a time limit for stopping power supply to Bangladesh due to non-payment of dues.

The report claims that Adani will cut off the connection if Bangladesh does not make its decision clear by November 7.

On Thursday night, Adani Power halved power supply from its Jharkhand power plant to Bangladesh.

According to Power Grid Bangladesh’s import data, Adani owes a huge amount of bills to the government.
