The government remains firmly committed to modernizing port management and enhancing operational efficiency through innovative, pragmatic measures, said Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain.
Speaking at a seminar on the Payra Port master plan held in Kuakata on Sunday, Dr. Sakhawat said, “If the master plan is implemented properly, Payra Port will emerge as a major economic hub in the region.” His remarks came as part of an official statement.
Payra Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal, who delivered the welcome address, noted that work is progressing to inaugurate the port’s first terminal by July 2026. He urged full cooperation from the government and all stakeholders to meet this goal.
The seminar brought together senior officials from government agencies, the armed forces, maritime organizations, business leaders, port stakeholders, and representatives from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and the Royal Dutch University of Technology.
During the event, BUET Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed and Royal Haskoning DCH’s Tommy Loder highlighted various features of the master plan.
Commodore Mohammad Abdul Kader, Member (Engineering and Development) of the Payra Port Authority, outlined the long-term development strategy and vision for the port’s future.
