Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam on Wednesday announced that the government has decided to revise newspaper advertisement rates and update the official media list.

This initiative aims to ensure a more equitable and efficient distribution of government advertisements while supporting transparency and sustainability in the media sector.

During a visit to five key offices under his ministry, Adviser Mahfuj Alam stressed the need to modernise facilities and enhance the efficiency of media-related services.

The offices he visited included the Department of Films and Publications (DFP), the Mass Communication Department, the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, and the Press Information Department (PID). His visit is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the infrastructure and operations of media institutions under the ministry’s jurisdiction.

While inspecting the shooting floor, sound theatre, film laboratory, camera centre, and production room at the Department of Films and Publications, Mahfuj Alam instructed officials to expedite the renovation of these facilities.

He emphasised the urgent need to upgrade outdated equipment and improve technical capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the media industry. These improvements align with the ministry’s prior commitments to modernising the country’s film and media sector, ensuring that filmmakers and content creators have access to state-of-the-art resources.

The adviser also urged officials to take proactive measures to streamline administrative processes and improve service quality, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

This directive builds on previous initiatives aimed at reducing bureaucratic complexities and fostering a more media-friendly environment. Mahfuj Alam reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the development of the departments and organisations under its supervision.

During his review of publications produced by the Department of Films and Publications, he provided strategic guidance on enhancing their quality and outreach.

Acknowledging earlier efforts to diversify media content, he stressed the importance of adopting innovative approaches to meet the evolving needs of audiences.

The visit was attended by several key officials, including DFP Director General (current charge) Khaleda Begum, Mass Communication Department Director General (current charge) Faizul Haque, Bangladesh Film Certification Board Vice Chairman Md Abdul Jalil, and Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director Muhammad Abdullah.

Their presence highlighted the collective commitment to implementing the government’s media reforms and fostering a more dynamic and professional media landscape in Bangladesh.
