BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday warned that the government would have to take complete responsibility if any reforms are imposed unilaterally, beyond the areas where consensus has been reached.
“We have already agreed on certain reform issues, but if the government tries to enforce anything outside that consensus, it alone will have
to bear the consequences,” he said while addressing a gathering at Kismat Keshur Bari Laxmirhat High School ground in Borgaon Union under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
Speaking about the national election, Fakhrul cautioned that postponing the upcoming polls would push Bangladesh towards becoming a ‘failed state’.
He also criticised a particular political group for spreading misleading religious messages among grassroots women and urged people to remain alert against those who act with duplicity.
The BNP leader vowed that, if voted back to power, his party would create one million jobs within 15 months.
He reaffirmed BNP’s pledge to ensure a fully independent judiciary and expressed concern over recent education policy changes, saying that removing the posts of physical education and music teachers from schools was a mistake that weakens the overall education system.
The event was chaired by Borgaon Union BNP President Dr Ahmad Ali and attended by District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Md Poigam Ali, Sadar Upazila BNP President Abdul Hamid, and several other local BNP leaders.
