In a move to strengthen the quality and pace of education at government primary schools, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has initiated a process to fill thousands of vacant head-teacher positions across the country.

The ministry has already submitted a requisition to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Secretariat, which is expected to soon issue a recruitment circular to appoint new head-teachers.

Ministry sources reveal that there are 65,502 approved head-teacher posts against 65,569 government primary schools nationwide.

However, only 31,396 head-teachers are currently serving, leaving 34,106 posts vacant.
Of these vacant positions, 2,647 posts are eligible for direct recruitment.

The ministry has decided to keep 10 percent of these directly recruitable posts reserved, while the remaining 2,382 will be filled through open recruitment.

In addition, 31,459 vacant head-teacher posts, which can be filled through promotion of assistant teachers, will be addressed once the Civil Appeal Case No. 73/2023-regarding the seniority of nationalised teachers is resolved.
Officials hope that filling these positions will help improve academic management, boost school performance, and ensure more effective delivery of primary education across the country.
