The Advisory Council has resolved to set up an independent investigation service for Bangladesh Police, aiming to ensure impartial and politically neutral inquiries.
The decision came at Thursday’s meeting of the Advisory Council, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his Tejgaon office, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.
“The Advisory Council has approved the creation of an independent police investigation service so that probes can be conducted without political or outside interference,” he said.
He added that the Council also decided to form a separate commission to look into internal complaints within the police force. The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has been tasked with implementing both decisions promptly.
Advisers Asif Nazrul and Adilur Rahman Khan, along with the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Home Affairs Khoda Box Chowdhury, will play key roles in the process, Alam said.
Highlighting another priority area, the press secretary noted, “The Chief Adviser stressed the need to empower local government bodies further. He instructed measures so that Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, Zila Parishads, municipalities, and city corporations can generate their own revenues and manage them with transparency.”
Addressing the health sector, Alam said some medical colleges are currently facing a shortage of qualified teachers. “To overcome this challenge, initiatives will be taken to involve retired teachers as consultants or in other academic roles to strengthen the quality of education,” he explained.
The meeting also reviewed the situation of Bangladeshis in Nepal. “All Bangladeshis there are safe, and the Embassy is providing necessary support,” Alam assured. He added that arrangements are in place to bring the national football team home on a special Bangladesh Air Force flight.
Summarizing the day’s outcomes, the press secretary said, “The decisions adopted today will contribute to stronger governance, a more resilient economy, and an enhanced international standing for Bangladesh.”
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was also present at the briefing.
