Govt to form inquiry commission for missing people

The government has formed a five-member ‘Commission of Inquiry’ to investigate all the disappearances from January 1, 2010 to August 5 this year.

The information was shared in a press release from the Cabinet Department on Sunday, September 8.

This commission was formed on August 27 by the Cabinet Department by order of the President.

The press release stated that the Former High Court Judge Mainul Islam Chowdhury has been nominated as the head of the commission.
The first meeting of the commission was held at the office of the commission in Gulshan.

All members of the commission were present there.
In the meeting, the commission decided to issue a public notice to search for the missing people.

The commission’s operations will be conducted daily, from 10am to 6pm, except for public holidays.
On behalf of the commission, the notification was signed by Tanveer Ahmed, Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet Department.

Tanveer informed the media that the Commission has been formed for the people who were forcibly disappeared by member of the country’s law enforcement agencies specially, Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch, Intelligence Branch, Ansar Battalion, National Intelligence Agency (NSI), Defense Force, Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI), or Coast Guard.
