Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday said that, if necessary, the bodies of those killed in the recent clashes over the National Citizens Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj may be exhumed for post-mortem examinations.

Speaking to reporters following a visit to the Third Terminal of
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the adviser stated, “A high-powered committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

The committee will determine who was responsible, and actions will be taken based on its recommendations.”

The statement comes amid continued security measures in Gopalganj, where a curfew was imposed in the aftermath of violent unrest on 16 July.

The district administration has announced that the curfew will remain in force from 8:00pm Saturday until 6:00am Sunday.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman confirmed the extension, adding that future decisions regarding the curfew will be made in coordination with law enforcement agencies, depending on how the situation develops.
