Staff Reporter : The government will buy six lakh metric tonnes of Boro paddy directly from farmers in this season, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak said on Thursday.
The authorities are preparing a farmers’ list up to the union level for a lottery so that no one gets deprived, the minister said it in a programme in International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) in Dhaka.
However, the rate of paddy purchase was not announced yet.
Earlier on October, the Agriculture Minister said that the government will buy Aman paddy at Tk 26 per kg.
He said that producing cost of per kg Aman paddy is Tk 21.55. In this view, government will give them Tk 26 so that they get some profit.
The minister said that government will buy highest two ton paddy from one farmer so that no one is being deprived.
Last year the government bought eight tonnes paddy from rice mill owners which triggered huge criticize across the country.
As the mill owners buy paddy from the farmers, the farmers were deprived to get fair price.
Protesting, the farmers threw paddy in roads in different areas.
