The interim government has prioritized efforts to recover money siphoned abroad over the last 17 years, Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Commerce, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, said on Sunday.

“The government has formed a task force to bring back the money that was illegally transferred overseas. We have already begun working on recovering these funds,” Dr. Salehuddin told reporters after the Adviser’s Council Committee on Government Procurement (ACCGP) meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

In response to a question about rising commodity prices, the adviser noted that vegetable prices fluctuate seasonally but assured that they would decrease soon.

“This government is taking all necessary steps to stabilize the market. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and other agencies are working to ensure a steady supply of daily commodities,” he said.

The adviser also mentioned that the government has initiated the sale of agricultural products at affordable prices through the Open Market Sale (OMS) program in various parts of the city to stabilize the commodity market.
TCB, the Department of Agricultural Marketing, and some private agencies are selling essential goods at fair prices, he added.

Dr. Salehuddin further informed that the government will increase the volume of sales under the TCB to ensure greater availability of affordable goods.

“The government is giving top priority to alleviating people’s hardships by all means possible,” he concluded.
