Govt takes preparations to deal with cyclone ‘Dana’

Administrations of coastal districts have taken massive preparations to deal with the approaching cyclonic storm “Dana.”

In order to deal with cyclone “Dana,” Disaster Management and Relief Ministry discussed cyclone preparedness with Deputy Commissioners of coastal districts and it is maintaining round-the-clock communication, said a press release.

As a part of this, the disaster management committee held an emergency meeting at the respective DC office’s conference room on Wednesday.

Medical teams have been formed and CPP and Red Crescent volunteers have been kept ready to deal with the cyclone.  All the activities that need to be taken in advance to deal with the cyclone have also been taken.

Meanwhile, the upazila administration has been given necessary guidelines to be ready to deal with any situation related to the cyclone.

According to latest bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the Cyclonic Storm “DANA” over East central Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved West-Northwestwards and lies over East central Bay and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal and was centered at 6pm on Wednesday about 650 kms Southwest of Chattogram port, 595 kms Southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 585 kms South of Mongla port and 555 kms South-Southwest of Payra port.

It is likely to move West-Northwesterly direction and intensify further. Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone center, it said.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No.3. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
